Hubert Davis set to become North Carolina head coach

Prepare for North Carolina football by getting sideline gear now.

We’re just a few weeks away from the North Carolina Tar Heels kicking off their season against Minnesota. UNC has some questions, but there’s no denying that the door is as open as it will likely ever be for North Carolina.

Drake Maye and Tez Walker are gone – a duo that could provide a spark against any opponent at any time – but there’s still going to be plenty of fireworks in Chapel Hill.

We have to start with running back Omarion Hampton. Hampton is coming off a 1,504 yard and 15 touchdown season in 2023 and is considered to be the second-best running back in the country (behind OK State’s Ollie Gordon).

Next up is a pair of tight ends in Bryson Nesbitt and John Copenhaver. The two combined for nine touchdowns last season and will likely get plenty of work from either Max Johnson or Conner Harrell or Jacolby Criswell.

The reason we mention all three QBs is that, as of right now, coach Mack Brown hasn’t chosen his starting quarterback for 2024. Johnson has more experience, Criswell is the more explosive runner and Harrell has been impressing coaches throughout the offseason.

Coming off a nine-win season a year ago, whoever becomes the signal caller for UNC in 2024 will do so with significant expectations heaped upon them.
