Corey Day is set to make his NASCAR debut this week, and he’s drawing inspiration from a familiar name: Kyle Larson. The 24-year-old driver from Georgia has been making waves in the motorsports world, and he’s hoping to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Larson, who made his own NASCAR debut at the age of 17.
Day has been racing for several years, competing in various series and working his way up the ranks. He’s won several championships and accolades, including the 2019 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East title. However, making the jump to NASCAR’s top series is a significant step, and Day knows it won’t be easy.
“I’m excited to make my debut, but I also know it’s not going to be easy,” Day said in a recent interview. “Kyle Larson is someone I’ve looked up to for a long time, and I’m hoping to emulate his success. He’s had an amazing career, and I think he’s a great role model for me.”
Larson made his NASCAR debut in 2012, driving for Turner Motorsports in the Nationwide Series. He went on to win several races and eventually made his way to the Cup Series, where he’s had success with Hendrick Motorsports. Day hopes to follow a similar path, but he knows it will take hard work and dedication.
“I’m just going to focus on doing my best and learning as much as I can,” Day said. “I’m excited to be part of this team and to have the opportunity to compete at this level. I’m going to give it my all and see what happens.”
Day will be driving the No. 44 car for SDG Racing, a team that has been competing in NASCAR’s Xfinity Series for several years. The team has had some success in the past, winning several races and making the playoffs. Day is hoping to continue that trend and make a name for himself in the series.
“It’s an honor to be part of this team and to have this opportunity,” Day said. “I’m going to do everything I can to make them proud and to help the team succeed.”
Day’s NASCAR debut will take place at Daytona International Speedway, where he’ll compete in the Xfinity Series race on February 20th. Fans will be watching closely to see how he performs, and Day is ready for the challenge.
“I’m just going to go out there and do my best,” Day said. “I’m excited to be part of this series and to have the opportunity to compete at this level. I’m going to give it my all and see what happens.”
