ECU decision explained by three-star linebacker Macklin Sanders, from initial offer to final selection
Macklin Sanders had interest from other college programs, but East Carolina being the first to offer the class of 2025 prospect from Ola High School in Georgia went a long way in landing his eventual commitment. It was back on March 23 when ECU first offered Sanders, becoming the first Division I program to do so, during a Junior Day visit.
Sanders committed nearly three months to the day later, announcing his pledge on Saturday, June 22, at the conclusion of his summer official visit. The three-star linebacker opted for ECU over offers from Troy, Dartmouth, Navy and Wofford, along with emerging interest from other teams.
It was ECU defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Blake Harrell who offered Sanders originally, and has been recruiting him since Day 1.
East Carolina is inside of 60 days of kickoff, when the Pirates take on Norfolk State inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on Aug. 31 to begin the sixth year of the Mike Houston era in Greenville. To count down the days to kickoff, we will be utilizing the Pirates’ football roster to help us, going in numerical order from the highest number on the roster to the lowest.
We continue with No. 58 as we are 58 days away from kickoff, and outside linebacker Jackson Barker.
