Mack Brown and UNC football players go around during ACC Kickoff
In terms of buzz going into the season, the Tar Heels are…lacking. It’s arguably the least amount of buzz the Tar Heels have had in the Mack Brown 2.0 era. After several years with disappointing finishes, another round of coaching changes, a huge question mark at quarterback, and a home schedule that leaves a lot to be desired, there’s just no palpable excitement going into this season.
It also feels as if Mack Brown may have wanted it that way. There’s been a conspicuous lack of offseason interviews by the head coach, and even the spring game wasn’t played on TV. So for a lot of us, ACC Kickoff was a first real chance to hear how things were going as Carolina is about to start reporting back to school for camp.
Thus, Mack Brown along with players Max Johnson, Connor Harrell, Omarion Hampton, Power Echols, and Kaimon Rucker went to Charlotte on Thursday to speak to media members.
If you missed any of what they had to say, don’t worry, there’s video for you to consume.
Once the breakouts are done, it’s time to do the rounds of radio and podcast interviews. Ovies and Giglio had a whole UNC themed podcast that dropped Friday, with Brown, Echols, and UNC alum Michael Felder from the In the Bleachers podcast. There’s discussion about being under the radar, expectations for 2024, and Felder gets deep into just how much he’s seen with the failures of the UNC defense in seasons past.
Ready to get excited about football? Even though kickoff isn’t until August 29th, camp opens for everyone in the UNC football program on Monday evening. That’s when reports will start to leak out about how everyone looks, and we may start to get some idea about how this team is going to take shape.
