The defenseman signs a three-year contract with Edmonton after an outstanding first NHL training camp that featured a standout performance at the Young Stars Classic.

Montréal, AB – Beau Akey has agreed to a three-year entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers.

At the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville, the 18-year-old defenseman was selected 56th overall in the second round, making him Edmonton’s top pick.

The right-shot blueliner had a successful training camp with the Oilers before being sent back to his junior team in Barrie, Ontario Hockey League. He dressed for three Young Stars Classic games and Edmonton’s opening preseason game against Winnipeg.

After four games, Akey has already tallied two goals and 17 assists in his third OHL season with the Colts. He has played in 131 games overall.
