Michigan Wolverines trying to desperately hold onto lead for 5-star priority target, but an SEC program is trending quickly
In terms of priority targets in the 2026 recruiting class, there is no questioning how important Mineral (Va.) Louisa County running back Savion Hiter is to the Michigan Wolverines. Long considered to be the favorite for Hiter, head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines staff have had to remain consistent. It’s all you can hope for with an elite player of this caliber. The Wolverines might have been, and still are the leaders for Hiter, but that hierarchy is being threatened. According to vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong, the Tennessee Volunteers are closing the gap quickly. They stand as the biggest threat as things stand. If Michigan were to lose out on Hiter, it would be a massive blow to their 2026 recruiting class. He is an elite runner, who many believe is the top running back in the country.
The 5-11, 200-pound runner is a dominant athlete who made his impact felt all over the field as a junior. Hiter managed to rush for 1,698 yards and 26 touchdowns, averaging a stellar 10.8 yards per carry. He was also tremendous on defense, collecting 56 total tackles, seven sack, and an interception, while also returning three kicks for touchdowns on special teams. Hiter is currently rated as a five-star player by multiple major recruiting platforms. On the 247Sports Composite ranking, Hiter is currently pegged as the No. 15 overall player, No. 1 running back, and No. 1 player in the state of Virginia for the 2026 recruiting class. The On3 Industry ranking has Hiter even higher, sitting as the No. 8 overall player. In terms of offer list, you won’t find many more impressive than Hiter. Schools that have offered him include the Wolverines, Volunteers, Georgia, Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, Oregon, Ole Miss, Miami, Penn State, Florida State, Auburn, UNC, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Kentucky, Maryland, Arizona, West Virginia, Boston College, Virginia, Rutgers, and Syracuse among others.
