
Cactus was an American hard rock and blues-rock band formed in 1969 by former Vanilla Fudge members Carmine Appice (drums) and Tim Bogert (bass), along with Jim McCarty (guitar, formerly of Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels) and Rusty Day (vocals, from The Amboy Dukes). Often referred to as “the American Led Zeppelin,” Cactus was known for their high-energy, blues-driven sound, combining heavy riffs, powerful drumming, and raw, soulful vocals. Their early albums, such as Cactus (1970) and One Way… Or Another (1971), featured explosive tracks like “Parchman Farm”, “Evil”, and “Rock & Roll Children”. Despite their musical firepower, the band struggled with internal conflicts and lineup changes, leading to their breakup in 1972. However, Cactus reunited in later years, with Appice leading various formations of the band.
